Round Top Reveal: Living, Dining, Bar and Kitchen

Anyone who knows the MFI team knows that Round Top, Texas is near and dear to our hearts. From the perfectly quaint town of Round Top to the eponymous antique fair, we cannot get enough of this delightful Texas town. When given the opportunity to turn a client’s “porch home” into a delightful escape, we couldn’t say “yes” fast enough.

Our Round Top project bridges the chasm between the area’s history and modern living, a contemporary twist on local aesthetics. To meaningfully settle into its surroundings, Round Top incorporates natural elements like white-washed cypress wall siding, vast red steel windows, intricate woven woods, and white oak floors. The design elements work to pay tribute to the property’s stunning natural light, ancient oak trees and seemingly endless wildflowers.

Living Room

The home’s living room, dining room and bar serve as its centerpiece, and the design is a continuation of nature. The vaulted, wood slat ceiling adds organic texture while concealing lighting and HVAC functions. The living room includes a lengthy fireplace, mantle, and television that is cleverly hidden behind trifold doors to match the surrounding metal. The coffee table is another custom piece that was carved out of solid limestone. The table’s scale is perfect for entertaining and displaying everything from family heirlooms to freshly picked wildflowers. The custom rug by Carol Piper Rugs is composed of stitched vintage hemp runners adding softness and definition. The custom sofa by The Joseph Company allows for ample seating and is accompanied by a vintage rocking chair.

The adjoining dining room includes a beautifully stained dining room table to complement the white oak millwork cabinetry found in both here and in the kitchen. Hanging above the table is a Brendan Ravenhill chandelier that adds architectural interest. Both the antique Spanish dining chairs and the 19th century Swedish buffet are from the clients at M.Naeve.

Bar

For seamless entertaining, the bar is a custom metal “portal” that surrounds the space, visually connecting it to the metal fireplace in the Living Room. The blue zellige tile backsplash along with the metal and glass shelving create the bar’s jewel box feeling. Guests will be more than happy to take a seat at the bar with Palecek barstools and beautiful barware.

The kitchen’s expansive vaulted, wood slat ceiling with exposed trusses perfectly highlights the chandelier by The Urban Electric Co. The island features a countertop composed of custom, reclaimed butcher block, reminiscent of an antique furniture piece.

Kitchen

Contemporary clean-lined cabinetry surrounds the kitchen for beautiful cohesion. A downdraft range, placed in front of the windows, omits the need for a hood, leaving the oversized picture window as the room’s focal point. The in-island sink is a gorgeous German Silver Sink from Elegant Additions, adding character and patina. We also included some open shelving at the corner of the island for added storage and display.

Overall, our goal was to infuse nature into the design and we believe Round Top truly achieved its purpose. Indeed, we’re excited to show you more of this home in the coming weeks!
