Room for Hope: Creating Space for Comfort, Healing, and Joy

At Marie Flanigan Interiors, we believe that design has the power to restore, comfort, and inspire—and our recent Room for Hope project brought that truth to life in a deeply personal way. We had the privilege of partnering with incredible brands, including Four Hands, Kelly Ventura, The Container Store and Lumens, to reimagine a family’s overburdened “catch-all” room into a functional, joy-filled space that serves both as a playroom and a guest room.

This project held special meaning for our team because it was for a family whose young son is bravely battling leukemia. With three small children—including twins—and the demands of hospital visits, Amelia, their mother, shared how the room had become a place where things simply piled up. Our goal was to lift that burden and create a haven of calm and connection within their home.

Every design choice was intentional—ample storage to keep life organized, comfortable seating to welcome guests, and playful touches to spark joy for the kids. We wanted each detail to not only serve a purpose but to offer comfort and beauty during a challenging season.

Seeing the family’s reaction reminded us why we do what we do. Amelia described the transformation as a “hard reset” for their home—a dream space they had never had the time to create themselves. For us, Room for Hope was more than a design project; it was a reminder of how the spaces we live in can lift our spirits, hold our stories, and offer a little more light when life feels heavy. To experience the before and after, be sure to watch our sweet reveal with the family!
