Last year we were asked to be a part of the “Living by Design” Showhouse. I couldn’t say “yes” fast enough! This virtual showhouse was such a unique opportunity to showcase incredible luxury and design. There was no budget…which is certainly a perk to virtual living! It was so much fun to create a space that truly knew no bounds.
Our team was tasked with creating the primary bath and closet. First, we needed to pinpoint our inspiration for these spaces. To me, high-end fashion is always inspiring and I was particularly moved by Chanel’s Spring 2018 Garden Party Couture Show inside Paris’ Grand Palais. The intricacies of Karl Lagerfeld’s runway shows are always a masterclass in set design and often forecast major trends in both design and fashion. Trellises surrounded the audience, for instance. The ambiance was light and fresh, and the soft sounds of the fountain transported you to the ultimate French jardin. My goal was to bring that feeling and sensation into a home, celebrating the art and luxury of getting dressed.
In the bathroom, I included a custom wallcovering inspired by Rococo fashions and colors, offset by a stunning intricate lattice detail climbing up the walls and ceiling. I wanted the space to be enriched with historical elements. I selected a beautiful, reclaimed marble laid in a diamond pattern, French Oak antique doors, and sprinkled in fluted glass on the cabinetry and light fixtures. Be sure to look up because the ceiling includes opaque divided windows inlayed in brass. The large soaking tub is a statement on its own, but perfectly blends into the serene surroundings. There is also a free-standing shower with unlacquered brass fixtures, a vanity and a water closet for privacy.
The closet and dressing area, serve as a place of respite and relaxation. Furnishings and rugs in silk and velvet add softness and texture, perfect for lounging. Storage is ample with both display and hanging space, along with built-in cabinetry. Woven throughout as a natural tie into the bathroom is the trellis work. We designed the ceiling tray to be circular which accents the beautiful chandelier at its center. All of these elements join together to envelop you in a serene and layered primary closet.

We loved working with Participating Brand Sponsors Calico and Currey & Co who allowed us to place their beautiful products throughout the design. The incredible Brandon Architects made all of our primary closet and bathroom dreams come true. YouSee brought it all to “life” with the 3D visualization. Lastly, big thanks to the showhouse national media partner Martha Stewart Living and showhouse team Embello for choosing us. We had a blast!
