We’re throwing it back to one of our favorite smaller spaces today! This guest home provides a little extra wiggle room for the owner’s active lifestyles and visiting guests. Complete with a full kitchen, powder bath, master suite, and functioning work space, this retreat functions as a freestanding home. Follow along to learn how we brought the spaces to life. The attention to detail, creative space planning, and storage ensure that every bit is as functional as it is beautiful.
Upon entering the home, a staircase with a minimalist steel railing and grid paneling lead up to the living quarters. Covered in a Tibetan-Botanical Sadu rug, a warm, texture-rich tone sets the stage for all of the spaces to come.
The living quarters are located on the second floor, with walls and molding painted in Benjamin Moore Cloud White. A light, bright canvas highlights this sophisticated, open concept space where raw elements unite with more highly refined materials. A combined kitchen, dining, and living space are adorned by rustic beams that accentuate the impressive ceiling height. Wide 7-inch walnut plank floorboards in a Kentucky bourbon finish make the space appear larger while encapsulating Old World charm.
Rich wood tones continue in the kitchen with oak cabinetry elegantly accented by campaign style pulls. We maximized storage through the installation of upper cabinets and the addition of drawer bottoms. Drawers allow you to store more and, more importantly, see more. As a result, you’re never faced with the loss of gadgets and appliances that get lost in a cabinet. We also built appliances in to ensure that guests wouldn’t lose any of that oh-so-valuable counter space.
Ivory Calacatta countertops and backsplash contrast the darker tones used below. A plaster vent hood blends in seamlessly with the walls, magnifying the height and size of this highly functional kitchen.
Dark bronze pendant lights covered with white linen shades (similar linked here) anchor the room drawing eyes to the gorgeous Neal & Co. hand crafted dining table that stands below. We broke up the heavier wood elements with white linen chairs and added a soft runner (similar linked here).
Multi-purpose furnishings that boast clean, structured lines fill the living space in a well-edited configuration that helps the space feel larger. Dessin Fournir antique brass side tables flank a two-seater linen sofa providing beautiful hidden storage.
A teak coffee table and silk rug anchor the room, serving up the perfect place for guests to rest their weary feet.
Cozy club chairs and white hide ottomans provide even more seating where you can sit back, relax, and soak up the sun streaming through the nearby windows.
We love this photograph of Marfa, Texas which was captured by the family’s friend. What a lovely nod to the beauty discovered in West Texas!
A headboard swathed in Holy Hunt suede presents a casual, lived-in feel that would make any guest feel comfortable, and antique linen bedding from Plush Home ensures that they will enjoy an amazing night’s rest.
Blue lamps add a pop of color rested atop white Dessin Fournir side tables while scalloped book art from Natural Curiosities creates an interesting focal point.
Between the windows, custom antiqued mirror, and Circa Lighting lamps, this bedroom offers up ample lighting while creating a bright and inviting ambiance.
Another key point, a distressed brown colonial cane chair lends interest and a charming sense of history to this space.
Expert Tip: Hang your drapery closer to the ceiling to make your ceilings seem taller.
In the master bathroom of this guest home, herringbone tiles line the floor in detail. Chrome pulls and fixtures lend a refined edge to the surrounding oak cabinetry.
The powder bath is lined with driftwood wallpaper and topped with Cararra gold honed marble. Additionally, antique burnished brass sconces and show stopping horn drawer pulls finish it off.
Downstairs you’ll find a workspace lined in warm, unfinished wood paneling because it keeps the space raw and organic. Outfitted with ample storage for weekend activities like fishing, hunting, and skiing, as well as an industrial deep freezer, and a sink for easy cleanup, it serves as the perfect spot for any avid lover of the outdoors!
We selected polished concrete flooring for its durability as well as incorporated vintage brass hardware. Lastly, a linen Roman shade serves as a refined detail bringing the entire space together.
Overall, we hope you enjoyed this home tour and that we’ve inspired you to make the most of any space you have, large or small!
I am in love with the double drum shade pendant above the bed. Where did you get it?
